'Bonafide!2' comes to close in Shreveport; prints remain on exhibit at Giftspace

The final day to see one of Hooshang's equine works in the "BonaFide! 2" exhibit at the Shreveport Regional Art Council's Artspace Gallery is Saturday, Jan. 5.

The show began Nov. 8 and features artists from the Northwest Louisiana Juried Roster, a group of professional artists from 10 parishes who were selected by a national arts critic based on the quality of their body of artwork and professional experience.

Hooshang's painting currently on exhibit is "Crayola Horse," a 36x48-inch acrylic on canvas.

In December, Hooshang participated in another SRAC event, "Christmas in the Sky," winner of the Special Events International Magazine's Best Gala in the World award. Christmas in the Sky is produced every other year by the arts council. This year it was billed as "Apocalypse Wow" and held Dec. 8 at Harrah's Louisiana Downs. The fundraiser included 16 auction areas, 10 stages, 12 bars, 11 themed buffets, both a live and silent auction, and costumed characters and entertainers. More than 2,000 guests from across the nation attended.

In addition, on a continual basis, Hooshang's limited-edition prints (see samples below) and small abstract paintings are on sale at Giftspace in the Artspace center at 710 Texas St. in downtown Shreveport.

This article in the January edition of Delta Style magazine describes two museum shows where Hooshang's paintings are currently being displayed.

'Unchained Harmony,' 'Moonlight Garden' add to seasonal festivities at Taube Museum

The Taube Museum of Art in Minot, N.D., sponsored its annual Festival of the Seasons Art Sale from Nov. 23 through Dec. 21, 2012, and six of Hooshang's paintings were chosen to be shown there.

Hooshang exhibited "Unchained Harmony," a set of three 6x6-inch paintings (above), and "Moonlight Garden," a set of three 8x8-inch paintings (below). All are acrylic/mixed media on canvas.

This was the second association Hooshang had with the Taube Museum. Two sets of his paintings were also part of the fifth annual Small Works Exhibit & Auction in June and July of 2012.

Hooshang brings 'Harmony' to Tallahassee

During November 2012, a two-painting set by Hooshang was part of the 18th Art Auction at 621 Gallery in Tallahassee, Fla.

The event's Silent Auction opened during the First Friday Gallery Hop on Nov. 2 and continued through Nov. 17, when the Live Auction occurred.

621 Gallery is committed to bringing contemporary art, artists and ideas to the Tallahassee area as well as the North Florida and South Georgia regions. The gallery celebrated its 31st anniversary last year. For more information, go to www.621gallery.org.

Hooshang's prints help improve lives of equines

Two of Hooshang's equine prints were part of an auction connected with the Bluebonnet Horse Expo in Austin, Texas, Oct. 20, 2012.

The expo and auction were sponsored by the Bluebonnet Equine Humane Society, whose mission is to improve the lives of equines by educating and helping owners, assisting law enforcement agencies, rehabilitating abused and neglected equines, and placing them into safe, permanent homes.

Taos museum exhibits Hooshang's 'Color Storm Allegro'

A Hooshang abstract was part of an exhibit and auction at the Taos (N.M.) Art Museum in the summer of 2012.

A Gala Auction connected with the exhibit, "A Russian Night in Taos," closed out the show Aug. 25; the exhibit began in July. Hooshang was represented at the show with "Color Storm Allegro," a 36x36-inch acrylic/mixed media on canvas.

The museum site termed the annual gala "one of the most anticipated events in Northern New Mexico." Art for the exhibit was acquired by private invitation only.

Dedicated to the region's early 20th-century art and the patrons who nurtured and preserved it, the museum is housed in the Fechin House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Russian-born Nicolai Fechin – regarded as one of the most important portrait painters of the 20th century – and his family moved to Taos in 1927. His paintings of Native Americans and of the New Mexico desert landscape are considered among his best works.

North Dakota museum features Hooshang's small abstracts

Two sets of Hooshang's paintings were part of the fifth annual Small Works Exhibit & Auction at the Taube Museum of Art in Minot, N.D. The exhibit featured a collection of works that were no larger than 80 square inches. Exhibit dates were June 19 to July 31, 2012.

Hooshang displayed sets of three 6x6-inch abstract paintings: "Deep Sunset" and "Letters for Home."

Executive Director Nancy Walter said, "I started this exhibition opportunity for artists because of my love of small art. That has not changed in ensuing years, and the public also seems to enjoy the look and feel of the exhibit as well. It also doesn’t hurt that a person can always find space to display the work because of the small size."

A portion of the proceeds from the auction will help support the museum, a non-profit organization with the motto "Enriching Lives Through the Visual Arts."
